I have recently been exploring ways to adopt second brain techniques to manage and organize my research.  At the ASEE 2023 conference, I shared a tips and tricks paper in the NEE division.  The full paper is available in the ASEE archive.

In the spring of 2021, a group of faculty who taught lab and design courses came together to share lessons learned from remote classes.  We found that we could have benefited from a community of practice (CoP) to be able to share ideas and collaboratively solve issues in our courses as we continued to adapt to changes in higher education.  At the 2022 ASEE annual conference, we presented a paper that shared the process of forming the CoP and the first year of programming.  The full paper is available from ASEE.

For the 2020 ASEE annual conference, I worked with two colleagues from the Future of Mechatronics and Robotics Education (FoMRE) team to survey professionals in industry and academia about the practical skills that students should learn in mechatronics and robotics education.  Our paper was awarded the best paper in the Multidisciplinary division. At the 2017 ASEE Annual Conference, I was awarded the Apprentice Faculty Grant.  The members of the Educational Research and Methods Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) award the Apprentice Faculty Grants for demonstrating outstanding potential for substantial future contributions to engineering education research and scholarship.  The other recipients in 2017 were Stephanie Cutler, Brooke Coley, and Cory Hixson.

At the 2017 American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference, I published a tips and tricks paper about collecting and organizing documents for promotion and tenure electronically.  In this paper, I summarized resources I found useful during my first year on the tenure-track, some advice I was given, and a survey of other tenure-track faculty.  The full paper can be accessed from the ASEE website.

At the 2016 American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference, I published a tips and tricks paper about successfully completing a Ph.D.  In this paper, I summarized resources I found useful during my doctoral studies, some advice I was given, and lessons I learned along the way.  The full paper can be accessed from the ASEE website.

A bring your own experiment (BYOE) is a special category of papers at the ASEE Annual Conference in the Division Experimentation and Lab-Oriented Studies.  In a BYOE paper the author describes how to develop equipment and/or a novel set of experiments.  At the 2015 ASEE Annual Conference, I published a BYOE paper about the GE 320 laboratory kit I developed and the experiments that can be performed with the kit.  During the conference, instead of a traditional paper presentation, I demonstrated an experiment with the kit in a science fair style session.  The full paper can be found on the ASEE PEER website.  

My first peer-reviewed publication will be a poster at this summer’s American Society of Engineering Education Annual conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The poster covers the content and development of the GE320 kit.
